Did You Know?
Math anxiety reduces blood flow to the brain’s problem-solving areas. When a child feels anxious about math, the amygdala activates, which disrupts the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex—the region responsible for working memory and logical thinking. That makes it harder to solve even basic problems. Repeated stress reinforces this cycle, making future math tasks feel even harder.
